November is National Vocation Awareness Month as well as our
Thanksgiving holiday. It is a perfect time to express our thanks to Fr.
Rudi for his dedication to both his vocation to the priesthood and his
willingness to serve the spiritual needs of our Holy Spirit community. The
Vocation Ministry Committee plans to compile some appreciation notes and
present them as a gift to Fr Rudi during the Christmas season.
Blank “Appreciation Notices” will available in the gathering
space this weekend. Please take one and write your personal note to Fr Rudi to
express your appreciation to him for his guidance and direction that have
helped you grow in your faith. Completed cards may be left in the basket
in the gathering space.
Focus on Gratitude: The mere daily act of focusing on our blessings makes us more mindful, more present to God’s mystery and gifts, and more aware of the needs of others around us.
The Knights of Columbus hope all that attended their Thanksgiving
dinner last Sunday were filled with food, fellowship, and gratitude when you
left. Thank you for your support. They will begin their annual Christmas magnet
sales next weekend, December 1st & 2nd after the
weekend Masses. All proceeds are used to
fund their wheelchair program.
Since 2003 the Knights of Columbus has funded delivery of tens of thousands of wheelchairs around the world, and right here at home. Thousands of veterans and their families in need of wheelchairs have received new mobility and honor the knights with their thanks and prayers. This life changing mission allows children, teens and adults around the world to have their prayers answered with the gift of hope, freedom, dignity, independence… a wheelchair! The Catholic Church in the United States will celebrate National Vocation Awareness Week, November 4-10. This annual event is a special time for parishes in the U.S. to foster a culture of vocations for the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life.
Picture yourself as answering God’s call to religious life! Photo opportunities are available in the HSCP gathering space to commemorate National Vocation Awareness Week!
To visit the Blessed Sacrament is….. a proof of gratitude, an expression of love, and a duty of adoration toward Christ our Lord. – St. Pope Paul VI
We need no wings to go in search of him but have only to find a place where we can be alone and look upon him present within us. St. Teresa of Avila
Eucharistic Adoration provides the opportunity to just be in His presence and be still; it’s a retreat from the world. HSCP’s Chapel provides a quiet place to contemplate God’s great love for you, your family, and your friends. It is a quiet place to empty your heart of concerns that may be weighing it down. It is a quiet place to fill your heart with his great mercy for you and your family, and friends. It is a quiet place to thank him, to praise him …. and he is always there for you.
As Father Rudi mentioned last weekend, our top priority is the safety of our children. In an effort to create a safe environment Father Rudi has asked that all adults, especially that work in any capacity with our youth or are involved in any church activities, complete the online Virtus Safe Environment Online Training available on the Diocesan website.
Go to catholiclubbock.org. On the homepage click on the Safe Environment tab at the top which will take you to the online training. There is no cost for this one-hour course. At the end you will be able to print out a certificate and you will be listed as having completed the training for Holy Spirit. Father Rudi will have access to a list of those that have completed training.

Dear Parishioners, “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” The saddest time in the history of the Catholic Church in the United States is the child abuse cases in the diocese of Pennsylvania and other dioceses. We are bombarded with this news day in and day out. I try not to think about it, for every time I ponder, my eyes well up and my brain shuts down. “To the one who is given more, more is expected”, said Jesus. We priests and bishops are held in a higher standard and we have failed terribly at a basic human level. Beholding Jesus crucified on the cross was always difficult for me. For the sacrifice He did for me and us. Now that I see these abused children nailed to the cross, I see the sacrifice they are called to. Nailed to the sin of abusive adults numbs my whole being. I pray with tears to Jesus, “Let these nailed because of our sin, let them please die in You so they will rise with You to new life, whole and complete.” The horrible scars that we have inflicted on them have taken away their freedom to live a life as a child of God.
From within people, from their hearts, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within and they defile. Mark 7:21-23
Our Prayer Chalice for Vocations program at Holy Spirit needs more families to help us continue this very important ministry. If you would like to receive the chalice at the Sunday Mass you attend, please sign up in the Traveling Prayer Chalice book located on the Vocations table in the gathering space. Someone from the ministry committee will contact you prior to your chosen Sunday to receive the chalice.
On the Saturday or Sunday that you have chosen, a chalice will be presented to you at Mass. Please come to the foot of the altar, during the Prayer for Vocations, to receive the chalice and a blessing from Fr. Rudi or one of our deacons.
Inside the prayer chalice are the names of the priest, religious, the ordained and deacon candidates who serve Holy Spirit Parish. You will also receive a prayer packet with suggested ways to pray, as well as the names of the clergy serving in our diocese, so that you can also include them in your prayers.
From there you are free to choose your unique manner of praying for them. It may be by reciting the prayers in the chalice, or maybe you might want to ask God to bless each one as you speak their names, or you might choose to spend an hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament as you lift them up in prayer, or you might choose to pray a daily Rosary for an increase in vocations. When and how often you pray for them during the week could potentially bear fruit for yourself, your family, as well as our diocese. God does amazing things when we pray.
Please bring the prayer packet and chalice with you to Mass the following Saturday/Sunday. You may place it on the Eucharist Ministry table in the gathering space at least 15 minutes before Mass, so that the ceremonial minister can take it to the altar before Mass begins.
Thank you for considering committing to be a part of the Prayer Chalice ministry by receiving the chalice and committing to pray for vocations. Thank you.
The Grounds Committee appreciates all those that came out to help get the parish grounds cleaned and spruced up for the cooler weather this cool November 3rd morning. Your volunteer spirit was greatly appreciated.
The Grounds Committee is looking for additional members to help with the ongoing efforts of keeping the grounds at Holy Spirit looking sharp. Please call the Parish Office and let Karen know if you are interested.
