Baptism Class Registration

Holy Spirit Parish invites you and your children’s godparents to attend our baptism classes to prepare for the baptism of your children. To register, you can complete the registration form below and provide the parish office with your child’s birth certificate. If parents or godparents have completed a baptism preparation class within the past 24 months, they may submit a written statement or certificate from the Catholic Church where the class was completed. There is no registration fee for the baptism of your child. Donations to the parish are greatly appreciated.

It is the privilege of every parish to have their members baptized in their own parish church. Parents must be registered members of this parish to have their children baptized here. God parents, who are not registered members of Holy Spirit, must submit a certificate of their eligibility and a no objection certificate from the pastor of their parish. Please contact the parish office at 806.698.6400 to learn when the next baptismal class will be offered.

Baptismal Godparents

Be Catholic. A godparent must be Catholic. A baptized Catholic above the age of 16 years old and also has completed the sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and Confirmation.  A baptized non-Catholic may not be a godparent but can serve as a witness along with a Catholic godparent.

Not the Parent. Godparents cannot be the parent of the child that is baptized.

Married in the Catholic Church. If the godparent is married, they must be married in the Catholic Church.

Regularly attend Mass. A godparent needs to regularly attend Mass. “Nobody expects you to be perfect,” says Patrick Madrid. “The Catholic Church does not require you to have a halo. But you have to be making a good faith effort to be a good Catholic—to love the Lord and to grow closer to him.”

One male and one female. The two godparents don’t have to be married to each other, but there can only be one male sponsor or one female sponsor, or one of each. In other words, you can’t have two godfathers or two godmothers.

Must be baptized. Non-baptized persons may not serve as a godparent. Godparents, our diocese asks that you complete the Godparents’ form available  here.
