Mary and May

May 31, 2021

On May 13th we celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima! May we continue to take comfort in her presence and seek her intercession to bring peace to the world! Please join us to pray the Rosary after the 7:30 am Daily Mass.

Knowing that there is a great devotion to Mother Mary, we have creative a prayer area in the gathering space for visits and prayers. The beautiful portrait of Our Lady of Guadalupe, along with the Holy Family, and candle displays is located in the south side of the gathering space.  Here you are welcome to pray as you light candles and present your prayer petitions.  Our chapel remains open, but in anticipation of daily Mass next week we have made the decision to lock the doors to the sanctuary. We are all diligently working to keep Holy Spirit clean, sanitized, safe and ready for you to come to Mass.

We praise you, Lord, and bless you, for in a time of horrific war and pandemic plague, you sent us your mother, Our Lady of Fatima. We sing praises to you, for even in times of sorrow and fear the Earth is still touched by one such as she.

And we are reminded, knowing that whatever war visits itself upon us, whatever deprivations, whatever want, whatever illness, whatever calamity endured by humankind that may cause us to look to the sky and despair, that your children do not toil in this world apart from your grace, that our prayers are not unheard and we do not go forth without a mother’s love. Keep us devoted to you, O Lord, devoted in our prayer, our words and our acts, that all souls in this world may know your compassion, peace and mercy, that all souls who have departed this world may find salvation.
Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco, pray for us.
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us. Amen.

There is a nice collection of audio and video titles on Formed.org.

All Catholics are encouraged to pray the Rosary daily during the month of May. Pope Francis reminds us, “Contemplating the face of Christ with the heart of Mary our Mother will make us even more united as a spiritual family and will help us overcome this time of trial. Read Pope Francis’ message here.

It was in Rome, towards the end of the eighteenth century, a child of the poor gathered his companions around him and led them to a statue of Mary, before which a lamp was burning, as is the custom in that holy city. There, they sang the Litany of our Lady. The next day, the little group, followed by other children, again gathered at the feet of the Mother of God. Soon, other groups were formed, and the devotion rapidly became popular. Holy souls saw in these growing practices the hand of God, and they cooperated with the designs of Providence by approving and promoting this new devotion, as a public and solemn act of reparation.

The Month of Mary was founded. This is the month in which the most affectionate and fervent homage of prayers and devotions from the hearts of Christians are raised to Mary. In our own times, we Catholics, wanting to be close to her always, offer her special presents in May: pilgrimages, visits to churches dedicated to her, little sacrifices in her honor, periods of study and well-finished work offered up to her, and a more attentive recitation of the rosary.

In popular practice, May traditionally has been devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. “God wills that all his gifts should come to us through Mary”. St. Bernard.

View the Renewing of the Consecration to Mary below.  The act of consecration to Mary, Archbishop Gomez said, “will give the Church the occasion to pray for Our Lady’s continued protection of the vulnerable, healing of the unwell, and wisdom for those who work to cure this terrible virus.” CNA
