Divine Mercy Sunday provides an opportunity for us to receive both a plenary indulgence and receive extraordinary grace. You can read more about this below and on the Divine Mercy website.

Divine Mercy Plenary Indulgence

A plenary indulgence, which removes all punishment for the temporal consequences of sin, is offered on Divine Mercy Sunday. The requirements for obtaining this indulgence are:

(1) Sacramental Confession up to 20 days before or after Divine Mercy Sunday (2) Reception of Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday (or its Vigil)
(3) Prayers for the intentions of the Pope (4) Take part in the prayers and devotions in honor of Divine Mercy in a Church or Chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for any sin, even a venial sin — such as the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed at 2:45pm in the Sanctuary at Holy Spirit on April 7th (Divine Mercy Sunday). You may choose to privately praying before the Tabernacle on that day: one Our Father, the Creed (Apostles or Nicene), and then adding, “Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!”

Extraordinary Grace

In addition to the Plenary Indulgence available on Divine Mercy Sunday, there also is an “Extraordinary Grace” option for forgiveness of all sin and its temporal consequences. The requirements for this are: going to Confession prior to Divine Mercy Sunday; receiving Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday (or its Vigil) in a state of grace; and afterwards praying:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner. I have been to Confession and just received Holy Communion. Through your promises to Sr. Faustina, grant me forgiveness of all sin and punishment. Amen.

Divine Mercy Novena

Jesus asked that the Feast of the Divine Mercy be preceded by a Novena to the Divine Mercy which would begin on Good Friday. He gave St. Faustina an intention to pray for on each day of the Novena, saving for the last day the most difficult intention of all, the lukewarm and indifferent. A group will gather in the Chapel each evening at 6:00 PM beginning Saturday, March 30th to pray the Novena. You are asked to pray the first day individually since it begins on Good Friday.
