Fall Festival 2018.10.13

Thank you for supporting our first annual Fall Festival. You helped make it a very family friendly festival. Photo Album

HSCP & Christ the King  partnered in the raffling of two 2018 vehicles. The winning raffle tickets was drawn following the Live Auction. The 2018 Nissan Rogue SV was won by Victor Gutierrez and the 2018 Nissan Altima SR was won by James Campbell. Congratulations!

BBQ Cook-off A big part of our festival this year was the BBQ Cook-off sponsored by our Knights of Columbus. The aroma, the texture, the flavor, the comradely; together they all seasoned the success of the festival. Congratulations to our Cook-off Winners too!
Brisket: 1st-Craig Ray, 2nd-Adrian Gonzalez, 3rd-Gary Artho
Spare ribs: 1st-Nieves Barraza, 2nd-Mark Duran, 3rd-Adrian Gonzalez
Cooks’ Choice: 1st-David Gonzalez, 2nd-Julian Barraza, 3rd-Craig Ray

BBQ Dinner The Knights presented a BBQ dinner to over 500 attendees. Rave reviews of the dinner echo throughout McGivney. The Knights are certainly one of HSCP’s well-seasoned servants!

Silent & Live Auctions These were fun, competitive, enjoyed by most every attendee, and contributed to our fundraising purpose; our charitable ministries.

Kid’s Activities in spite of the in-climate weather, the kid’s activities were modified and moved into McGivney’s classrooms and the kids had a great time.

DJ & Dancing Does every parish have it’s own DJ? Ours, Irving add his musical expertise to the festival atmosphere. A cash bar was available for adult beverages.

Beneficiaries of our 2018 Fall Festival are the homeless families in our community. Please view the links to the right for more festival information.

Month of the Rosary

Image

The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions. The Rosary is a form of contemplative prayer.  Many great popes, saints, and Christian leaders have exhorted us to pray the rosary. It’s a powerful prayer, they say, one that can change your life, strengthen the family, bring peace to the world, convert entire nations, and win the salvation of souls. Edward Sri

The Rosary is a Scripture-based prayer. It begins with the Apostles’ Creed, which summarizes the great mysteries of the Catholic faith. How to Pray the Rosary

Nearly 400 years later the play continues.  It is performed once every decade. Witness Oberammergau Passion Play 2020 which will be performed daily May 16 through October 4, 2020. Greeters & Hospitality

The hospitality ministry has invited parishioners to help welcome fellow parishioners and visitors to our Sunday Masses and special liturgical events. A Mass Greeter’s task is simply one that welcomes parishioners and visitors in our gathering space before they enter the sanctuary.  Please call the parish office for more information 806.698.6400

Many greeters have made significant impacts on parishioners and visitors that have encouraged them in their faith. Maybe someone has had a difficult week. A warm greeting can remind people that they are entering a place that will treat them differently than the way the world treated them. A warm greeting also reaffirms to each person that they belong. It’s a way of saying, “You belong here, and we are glad that you do.” After all, everyone is important to the body of Christ.

Please take some time to consider how you might be able to help as a greeter before our weekend Masses. As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.

1 Peter 4:10 8-9 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

4-H Project

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?i If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?  James 2:14-16

Riley and Reagan Stokes are sponsoring an Unmentionable Collection as a part of their 4-H Project. Please see the flyer in this week’s bulletin for more details and a personal letter from them. They are working to help children at the Boy’s Ranch and Children’s Home.

You may place your items in their collection boxes in the Gathering Space or bring to the office. Thank you for your generosity and support helping these two young ladies help other children. that need our support.
