28th Sunday of Ordinary Time Readings October 11, 2020

God’s Word has many uses, and one is incorporating it into your lesson. The Sunday readings can be used in place of the Theme Refresher. There are links to the readings within the discussion section below. |
Reading 1 Isaiah 25:6-10A Responsorial Psalm PS 23:1-3A, 3B-4, 5, 6 Reading 2 PHIL 4:12-14, 19-20 Gospel MT 22:1-14 OR 22:1-10 Sunday’s Readings USCCB Jesus invites everyone to follow him, but some people don’t follow him. Jesus was telling this story to the leaders of the church Iong ago. Many of the leaders were jealous of Jesus because more people listened to him than to the leaders of the Jewish faith. These leaders were more interested in their power than in learning from Jesus. They didn’t want to listen to what Jesus had to say. Jesus told the people that God loves them, and they should turn away from bad choices and turn toward God’s goodness. The leaders wanted the people to follow the leaders’ rules, not God’s rules. These are the people who don’t follow Jesus. These are the people who don’t dome to the banquet that God gives for us. As a family, think and talk about the following: • What does Jesus say is like a banquet or party? • What does the king do when the first guests do not come to his special banquet? • Who does the king tell his servants to go out and invite everyone to the banquet? • Who came to the feast? These questions help us to go deeper into God’s Word.
- From a spiritual vantage point, what does the image of a sumptuous banquet conjure up in my mind?
- Have I ever had an experience of God wiping away my tears?
- “I am experienced in being brought low, yet I know what it is to have an abundance.” Has that been my experience of life? What have been some of my “highs” and “lows”?
- When/how have I experienced the strength of God building upon my own strength/ weakness?
- What are some recent things which have happened for me or have been given to me for which I ought to be grateful?
- What feelings are aroused in me by the parable in today’s Gospel?
- Have I ever found myself in the situation of not having my “wedding garment” on when I should have?
