Seminarian Jacob Powell

I was born in Lubbock, Texas in 1988 to David and Debbie Powell. I have 2 older sisters and 1 older brother all of whom are married and with children. I attended Trinity Elementary School. I also attended their high school until my junior year, when I decided to move to Coronado. After high school, I completed 1 year at Texas Tech University in Philosophy studies. Throughout most of my early years I had been discerning the priesthood.

By way of discerning prayer, I decided to join the Conventual Franciscans after my first year at Tech. I remained with them for 2 years before discerning to leave the community. I attended Texas Tech University for another year while discerning to join the Lubbock Diocese. After choosing to do so, the bishop graciously sent me to Philadelphia in order to complete my college at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Two years later, I was sent to St. Mary’s Seminary in Houston in order to complete my Theological studies. I have been there for over 4 years and will finish my last year there by the grace of God in 2017. I have been in formation for a total of 8 years. I look forward to my Diaconate Ordination on August 6th and my final year of seminary. I am looking forward to serving the people of this diocese for the remainder of my life.

Y’all’s prayers and support have been fundamental to my formation process, and I ask for continued prayers that I might be a holy priest of God who works tirelessly for the salvation of souls.
