Liturgical Minister

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ALL EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST

Because of the sacred nature of the services of the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist in the Mass, the Bishops of the United States have asked all EM’s to live up to the following:

  • An Extraordinary Minister MUST be an example of Christian living in faith and conduct in the church and in the community.
  • If married, an EM should have had their marriage blessed by the Church.
  • Dress code should be proper for the Eucharistic Banquet.
  • Practice the Commandments of God.
  • Practice the Precepts of the Church.
  • Attend Mass regularly.

At Holy Spirit we ask that Extraordinary Ministers  pick up their crosses 20 minutes before Mass. The CM cannot wait for you to come in at the last minute. Your cross may be given to someone else if you are late. And you must find your own substitute if you are unable to fulfill you assignment.

In the service for Commissioning of Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, the Church uses the following:

  • In this ministry, you must be examples of Christian living in faith and conduct; you must strive to grow in holiness through this sacrament of unity and love. Remember that, though many, we are one body because we share the one bread and one cup.
  • As ministers of holy communion be, therefore, especially observant of the Lord’s command to love your neighbor.  For when he gave his body as food to his disciples, he said to them: “This is my commandment, that you should love one another as I have loved you.”
  • If you would like to volunteer to be a Eucharistic Minister, please complete and submit the following form.
