Catholic Charities

Commissioner Contact Joe MacLean

Catholic Charities provides food, assistance, counseling, immigration services and operates a resale store. The Resale Center houses clothing, household appliances, and furniture for every need. Holy Spirit accepts food and monetary donations throughout the year. There is a donation box on the wall and a basket on a table in the foyer, located between McGivney Hall and the gathering space. Volunteers are always welcome to help handle donations, work in the office and store. For more information on volunteering or for services go to Catholic Charities or call 806.765.8475 (office) 806.763.8315 (Resale Center).

Basket 52
Contact: Mike Craig

Basket 52 would like to tell you about our commission and why you are the most important part of it. Basket 52 was started by Holy Spirit Parish in order to support the food pantry of Catholic Charities of Lubbock. Our goal is to be able to make a delivery to the food pantry every week. However, we cannot do that without your generous support.

As you walk to McGivney Hall, on your left there is a small table. On the table there is a wicker basket, a framed Bible verse, and a stack of paper shopping bags that have a shopping list attached. The shopping list is to show you the variety of goods Catholic Charities needs, and the table is where donations are left.

Basket 52 Shopping List: soup, canned meats, canned fruits, canned vegetables, pinto beans, rice, macaroni and cheese, tuna, shortening, breakfast cereal, corn meal, flour, powdered or canned milk, cup of noodles, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, toilet tissue, bleach, clothes detergent, dishwashing detergent, baby diapers, and disposable razors.

In addition to these goods, we also accept monetary donations to purchase food pantry items. Monetary donations may be placed in the suggestion box on the west wall of the old gathering space. Below is a compiled list of what Basket 52 was able to do last year because of your generosity. Thank you.

  • 32 trips to deliver goods to Catholic Charities
  • 318 paper bags of food delivered
  • 258 plastic bags of food delivered
  • 78 cartons of food
  • 18 cases of food
  • $1,416.65 taken to Catholic Charities

Church Library
Contact: Charlene Kalenkoski

Our parish library has almost 1800 titles sorted into 60 categories ranging from Bible studies, church ministries, and saints, to cookbooks, money matters, and teen fiction. It continues to grow each month as more materials (books, DVDs, videos, tapes, etc.) are donated by our parishioners.

It is an Honor Library, open at all times. When checking out materials, sign the CHECK OUT BOOK. Please return your selections in 3-4 weeks. If you would like to donate items, please be sure they are suitable for a church library. Leave your donations on the work table or in the Book Return box.
