Stewardship Reflection for the First Sunday of Lent
In today’s Gospel, Jesus urges his listeners to do two things: to believe in the Good News and to repent. The steward is called to repent: to acquire an openness to begin anew, to change existing attitudes and habits, and to act with faith in the Gospel. In this season of Lent, now is the time to ask ourselves whether or not we truly believe in the Gospel; and if we do, to what extent are we willing to change our prevailing habits and be more faithful to the Gospel?

Second Collection This Week

Black and Indian Mission are the beneficiaries of this weekend’s second collection. Mandated by the III Plenary Council in 1884, the 125 year-old National Collection for Black and Indian people continues as the embodiment of the Church’s concern for evangelizing the Black and Indian peoples of the United States. The funds are distributed as grants to dioceses throughout the United States, supporting and strengthening evangelization programs which otherwise would cease. Black & Indian Mission Website

Prayer Chalice for Vocations

Holy Spirit Catholic Church has initiated a Prayer Chalice for Vocations program.  Each week, a different family will take home a special chalice which contains the names of all clergy and religious at Holy Spirit, as well as a separate list of all clergy, religious, and seminarians in the Diocese.  The family is asked to pray for them throughout the week, as well as to pray for future vocations for Lubbock.  The chalice will then be presented the next family at Mass the following weekend.

Please prayerfully consider taking part in this opportunity to support vocations in our parish and in our diocese. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to join in daily prayer and to promote vocations. Sign-ups are in the Gathering Area after Mass; the sign-up book is located on the table with other information about vocations in the Gathering Space.

Our seminarian Jeremy Trull can be reach in the parish office for more information about the prayer chalice and vocations.

Please join us for a special parish Holy Hour. Holy Hour for Vocations February 20th 6:30-7:30 pm in the sanctuary.

Have an old adult sized bicycle you no longer use? Many of the homeless and needy that we meet at St. Benedicts are in need transportation. Ownership of a bicycle opens up opportunities for employment. If you have a bike to donate, contact Deacon Mike or Amy in the office 806.698.6400  .
