THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

RCIA classes began on September 8, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lubbock, Texas. It is not too late to join us! However, if you begin the class after December 1 you will not be able to join the Church at Easter Vigil, April 15, 2017. And, you will need to meet with the director to catch you up on the information you have missed in the classes. After December 1 you are still welcome to join us but will not be eligible to join the Church until Easter Vigil 2018.

Anyone can attend RCIA. It is designed specifically for those adults who have not been fully initiated into the Catholic faith and desire to compete their sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation. However, ‘Cradle Catholics’ who have not attended adult education classes for a while are welcome to come ‘catch up’. Visitors from another Christian congregation who are searching for more and who would like to listen to and study the history, beliefs and rites of our Catholic faith are always welcome.  Those who are unbaptized and are seeking an answer to God’s Call to ‘Come Home’ are encouraged to join us! Those who have made the decision to become Catholic or to complete your Sacraments must attend RCIA in order to join the Church.

For those who have been praying for a loving, spiritual community; for those who have little or no faith background; for those wishing to find the answers; for those wanting a better understanding of Catholicism; we welcome you with open arms to join us on this very special Journey of Faith.

RCIA meets at Holy Spirit Catholic Church every Thursday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 in McGivney Hall. There is a $10 Registration fee, due by December 1. We will supply you with a class notebook and all the information from each lesson. We do not meet during the school holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Years, and Spring Break. Free child care is available every week. Our final class for 2016-2017 is May 4, 2017.

The Journey of the Class of 2015-2016

The RCIA class of 2015-2016 welcomed 44 adults into the Catholic faith on March 26, 2016 at the Easter Vigil. After a concentrated 9-month study, 12 were baptized and all 44 were confirmed in the Church.  This was the largest group of adults in the history of Holy Spirit Catholic Church to attend RCIA and join the Church.

The video of the 2016 Easter Vigil is on the Holy Spirit Web Site under ‘About Us’ – Photo Album, or you may view it here. Thank you Gary Samuels and Edward Rodriguez!
